Last Sunday, July 22nd, was a red letter day for the Cashel GAA Club, and indeed the parish of Newtowncashel in general.  After weeks of speculation our Celebrity Bainisteoir was revealed at the GAA Clubhouse at 3.00pm.  The large crowd that had gathered loudly showed their appreciation when celebrity model Rozanna Purcell stepped out of her car to rapturous applause and entered the dressing room to introduce herself to the players.
The players bore their new Bainisteoir shoulder-high to the pitch before she spoke to the crowd and the team then went through an intense training session with Rozanna before retiring for a friendly chat and cup of tea in the clubhouse.

This was an exceptionally exciting day for all concerned and well done to all involved, for the intense preparation and organisation that went into the event.
Rozanna will take control at the helm over the coming weeks until our first match on September 2nd, the venue for which – home or away – will be determined over the coming weeks.
Thanks also to the children from Rathcline, Kenagh and Ballymahon who participated in the Under-10 Blitz prior to the Reveal.

On Saturday morning the parish learned of the news that Tommy O’Shea had passed away.  Everybody who knew him was stunned at the passing of such a popular man.  Tommy was known to so many, through the GAA, through business connections, or as a great friend and neighbour, and his death leaves a great void.  To his heartbroken wife Julia, his daughter Gráinne, his sons Enda and Tomas, and to his many friends, relatives and neighbours we offer our sincere sympathy.  May his soul rest in peace.

The Annual Parish Barbeque organised by the GAA Club takes place on the Sunday of the August Bank Holiday weekend, August 5th, from 5.00pm on.  The event was a phenomenal success last year and should be even better this year, particularly with the Celebrity Bainisteoir “in town”!

The 15th annual festival will be launched in a grand open air performance on the 27th July in the newly cleaned up Lanesborough Commons Quarry. Officiating the launch will be Roscommon born, celebrated writer and journalist John Waters. The line-up for this auspicious evening’s entertainment will include harpist Edel Loftus, trad musician Noel Carberry and Irish dancing. Food and wine will be served and sky lanterns will be released (conditions permitting) on the night to mark the occasion.  The Lough Ree Environmental Summer Festival will run from 9th Aug—12th Aug. Don’t forget to play your lotto numbers as Cashel GAA’s Lotto stands at €10,000.  There are weekly, monthly and yearly options to play your numbers.  You’ve got to be in it to win it.

Saints’ Island Cemetery, August 19th; Cashel Cemetery, August 26th.  Mass and Prayers for the Dead, 6.00pm.  These Masses will replace the 10.30am Mass in the Church.

Pattern Day will be celebrated at Lady Well, Derrydarragh, on Saturday September 8th, the Feast of the Birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary.  Mass follows the recitation of the Rosary at 6.00pm.  This Mass will replace the Saturday evening Mass in the Church.

Newtowncashel Toddler Group will continue throughout the summer months and meets every Tuesday morning from 9.45am – 12.00 noon.  See you then!
