SANTA CLAUS IN CASHEL
Well done to the Parents’ Association of St Mary’s National School for getting Santa Claus to call to “The Hill” last Sunday! The children had a wonderful time and together with the disco it was a brilliant success.
Saturday is Christmas Eve. “Midnight Mass” is at 10.00pm, preceded by the Blessing of the Crib. The Children’s Mass will be held on Christmas Day at 10.30am.
CHRISTMAS CAROL CONCERT
Congratulations and well done to everybody involved in making the series of Christmas Carol Concerts in Scramogue, Newtowncashel and Tang Churches such a resounding success last week. Newtowncashel’s Junior and Senior Choirs wish to express sincere thanks to all who helped make the Christmas Carol Concert on Wednesday in Newtowncashel such a success. Over €1,100 was raised in Newtowncashel alone for the RISE Foundation. CD available of Newtowncashel Concert.
CASHEL FOLK GROUP – SENIOR CHOIR
The Senior Choir will hold a rehearsal in the Church on Thursday December 22nd at 8.00pm.
A meeting of Altar Servers to arrange teams for Christmas, and hold a practise, will take place in the Church on Thursday 22nd, at .00pm. All servers are expected to attend.
CHRISTMAS DAY RUN
The Annual Christmas Day Run from Newtowncashel to Lanesborough in aid of the Longford branch of MS Ireland is being organised again for the 21st year. As a result of this event approximately €150,000 has been raised for Multiple Sclerosis. All are welcome, walkers start from the Hill at 11.45am and runners at 12.15pm, finish at the Hall in Lanesborough where refreshments are available. JUNIOR CHOIR – CHRISTMAS REHEARSALS
The Junior Choir will rehearse in the Church on Thursday December 22nd at 6.00pm. Please note change of time.
ADORATION & ROSARY
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and Recitation of the Rosary will not take place during the Christmas Season. They will resume on Wednesday January 11th 2012 and Friday January 13th 2012 respectively.
Collection envelopes for 2012 are being distributed by members of the Parish Pastoral Council. We thank them and all who help in the process. Anyone who has been omitted but who wishes to receive envelopes should contact the Parochial House.
Confessions in preparation for Christmas, will be heard on Tuesday December 20th at 8.00pm, in the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Newtowncashel. Visiting confessors will attend. Those who wish to go to Confession for Christmas are urged to avail of this opportunity.
Confessions, in St Mary’s Church Lanesboro, on Friday December 23rdat 8.00pm – a final opportunity to avail of the Sacrament of Reconciliation before Christmas.

ROSE OF LOUGH REE
The Rose of Lough Ree takes place in Fallon’s Lounge on Tuesday December 27th. The proceeds go towards Longford Hospice Homecare. This promises to be a wonderful evening’s entertainment, so please do come along!
NEWTOWNCASHEL DEFIBRILLATOR GROUP
The recent cake sale and raffle realised €1,550. The members thank all who helped and contributed so generously. The proceeds together with existing funds see the group well on the way to purchasing five storage cabinets. The raffle winners are as follows – 1st prize -

A progress report on the restoration of the Cathedral has been published in newspaper format. Copies are available in the porches.
Jude Flynn's "Fireside Tales" is now available to purchase in the Village, featuring on the front cover Brian and Rita Ganly sitting by the fire. This would make a beautiful present for Christmas.
COUNTY LONGFORD RURAL TRANSPORT
Longford Community Resources Ltd (LCRL) are delighted with the announcement in the recent Budget that the Rural Transport Programme will be continued in 2012, even with a slightly reduced budget. This is great news and indeed a relief for all the passengers who use the service. Many thanks to them and to all the stakeholders who have supported and indeed campaigned for the continuation of the Programme thought the year.
TIMETABLE – ALL routes for 2011 will be completed on Friday December. Service for 2012 will resume on Tuesday January 3rd.
