Hard luck to the Cashel team who were narrowly defeated by Clogherinkoe of Kildare in the Leinster Club Junior Championship in Newbridge on Sunday.
The cameras visited St Mary’s National School on Monday 15th and Bainisteoir Training took place that same evening at 6.00pm.  A “send off” for the team will be staged outside Fallon’s Pub on Wednesday 17th at 8.00pm.  This will be the last time the camera crew will visit the village so we hope that there will be as huge turnout as there was on Reveal Day!
And just in case you needed a reminder, the Final itself will be played in Parnell Park, Dublin, on the evening of Friday October 26th. Gates open at 6.00pm.  Throw in at 7.30pm.  
Buses are also being organised to travel to the Final and two options are available, for those who wish to travel up and back on Friday, or for those staying over and travelling back on Saturday.  Contact Mick Casey at (086) 828 9811 or to book.  Buses will leave the village between 2.00pm and 3.00pm on Friday 26th.
Next Sunday evening’s Celebrity Bainisteoir programme on RTÉ1 will showcase Roz and Cashel taking on Pippa O’Connor’s Naomh Bríd under the floodlights at Páirc Ciarán.  Don’t forget to tune in!

A Children’s Fancy Dress Disco will be held in "The Hill" on Wednesday October 31st from 4.00pm – 7.00pm (sharp).  Admission is €2 for school-going children.  (Parents and younger siblings are free)  Refreshments will be provided for all children.  Parents are also invited to join in the fun of the occasion and dress up if they wish!  Come along and join in the fun!

The Tidy Towns held their Annual General Meeting on October 3rd.  It was a well-attended meeting and nine new members have joined.  The following officers were elected: Hnorary President – Kieran Eustace, Chairperson – Michael Murray, Secretary – Sheila Donnelly, Assistant Secretary – Sandy Henney, Treasurer – Catherine Gallagher, Assistant Treasuer – Mary Casey, PRO – Michael Casey, FÁS Coordinator – John Farrell.  Fr Brady, who has retired, was thanked for his excellent work on the Church grounds and the hall down the years.  The nine new committee members are Kieran Eustace, Mary Casey (Derrydarragh), Peter Hanley, Kevin Casey, Mary Casey (Clonmee), Mike Casey, Brendan Bannon, John (Jack) Farrell.

Set Dancing classes continues in the Lifebelt Bar, Ballyleague, on Tuesday evenings at 8.00 p.m. Why not come along to the classes for a great evening's fun.

Last weekend’s cake sale and raffle realised €1,445.00.  Thanks to the organisers, donors and those who supported so generously!  A special word of thanks to the children who had their own stall – promoter of the future!  

Cashel GAA’s Lotto still stands at €10,000.  There are weekly, monthly and yearly options to play your numbers.  You’ve got to be in it to win it.  Don’t forget to play your numbers every week.

The Do This In Memory preparation programme for First Confession and First Holy Communion gets into full swing on Sunday the 28th of October at 10.30 am Mass.  The children and their parents will participate in the mass that morning.

A rehearsal will be held on Saturday October 20th from 5.30pm – 6.30pm.  PLEASE NOTE that this rehearsal is the weekend BEFORE the Do This In Memory Mass.  We look forward to seeing everybody!  New members are always welcome.

Newtowncashel Community Games would like to remind people that their AGM will be held on Tuesday October 16th at 9.00pm in the GAA Clubhouse.  This is a very important meeting as the current Committee are not prepared to continue with the lack of support in organizing and mentoring different sports.  New people are urgently needed as there is no future for the Games in Newtowncashel otherwise.The Committee would also like to request copies of photos from Community Games events that anyone might have from the last 40 years for the 40th anniversary book that is being compiled.  Photos may be given to any Committee member.

The Annual General Meeting of St Mary’s NS Parents’ Association was held in the school on Wednesday October 10th and all committee positions have been filled.  You are reminded that every parent or guardian of a child attending the school is a member of the Parents’ Association and as such is always welcome to attend any or all of the meetings.  Parents of Junior Infants and new parents to the school are very welcome.  The organisation is a great way of getting to know other parents, organising fun activities for the children and your involvement is essential in the decisions as to how funds are allocated for the benefit of your children.  

October is the month of the Rosary.  The weekly recitation of the Rosary continues on Friday October 19th at 7.30pm.  All are welcome.

Newtowncashel Toddler Group meets in "The Hill" every Tuesday morning from 9.45am – 12.00 noon.  All welcome!  See you there!

Cheerios Childline Breakfast Together Week takes place from October 8th-14th.  Newtowncashel Baby and Toddler Group will host a Breakfast Together Event in "The Hill" on Tuesday October 23rd.  Breakfast will be available from 7.30am – 12.00noon, if you would like to call in for a bowl of cereal or tea and toast on the way to work or school!  Your support will be greatly appreciated!! Last year Childline received a record number of calls, but due to lack of funding many calls went unanswered.  Your support will greatly help!! See you all for breakfast on the 23rd!!

The Autumn Station Masses will be celebrated from during the month of October.  Householders who are to host the Station Masses, may arrange dates when convenient if they have not already done so.  The upcoming Stations are as follows:
Stonepark, at the home of Mary Sweeney, on Monday October 15th.
Ballinahinch and Cashel, at the home of Liam Fallon, on Friday October 19th.
Streamstown, Caltrabeg & Ballina, at the home of Seamus Farrell, on Tuesday October 23rd.
Derrygowna, at the home of Margaret and Patrick Brennan, on Thursday October 25th.
Confessions at 7.45pm.  Mass at 8.00pm.

The Annual Regional Pioneer Dinner Dance takes place in The Rustic Inn, Abbeyshrule, on Friday November 9th.  Music by the J & S Sound.  Dinner at 9.00pm, sharp.  Tickets, at €25.00 each are now available from Committee members.

Four members of parish personnel attended a pastoral “think in” on September 6th. In response to feedback from that meeting the Parish Pastoral Council has proposed that a Mass facilitating teenage involvement and participation b arranged.  Towards that end a meeting will be held in the Church after mass on Friday November 2nd.  Second level students and all who are supportive of this initiative are invited to attend.

A Church Music Workshop will be held in the Carmelite Priory, Moate, on Sunday October 21st, commencing at 12.30pm and concluding with Mass at 6.30pm.  Led by Ian Callanan, the workshop is open to all young people, youth choirs and their musical directors.  For further details contact, or (090) 647 3358, or

Newtowncashel Defibrillator Group will meet in the GAA Clubhouse on Thursday October 18th at 8.00pm.  Residents of Derryhaun and Elfeet/Leab in particular are invited to attend as defibrillators are to be located in these areas.  Training is ongoing.  Those who are interested are asked to contact Geraldine Greene on (087) 619 0134 or Mairead Farrell on (086) 856 6608.

Longford Association for Persons with Intellectual Disability – Newtowncashel Branch, holds its AGM in "The Hill" on Tuesday October 16th at 8.00pm.  All members are asked to attend please, new members welcome.  Tickets are now on sale for the annual social and raffle.  Your support is always appreciated.

Food baskets will be located in the main porch of the Church next weekend, Mission Sunday, to receive non-perishable food items, for distribution by the Society of St Vincent de Paul.

This route comes from Portnaure-Pollagh-Newtowncashel direction into Ballymahon, BUT can deviate, to facilitate any passenger who wish to travel to Ballymahon for shopping or on business (Banking etc).  Note: The Once fortnightly O/F Service No.17  to Ballymahon on Friday has spaces available and does need support and a greater uptake. The Service is “Flexible” and “Demand Responsive”.

Anyone interested in "recalling" all the "Gaeilge" that’s buried deep in the old brain come along to "The Hill" this Thursday Oct 18th at 8.30p.m. We are all beginners, so we can all "recall" together. All ages are welcome.
