There was widespread regret in the Parish at the news that John (Jack) Farrell had resigned from the Tidy Towns.  Recently he had been chosen as the “Longford Leader Person Of The Year” for his voluntary work in the village and for other organisations.  He will be badly missed.  We hope he will remain active in his other pursuits bringing his talents to all who are in need.

Our slimathon was launched last week by the owner of Athlone Motivation Clinic, Ruth O Malley.  We are aiming to have community walks and cycling  and everybody is welcome to come along to any of our evenings and help to keep up the morale for those competing.

On Tuesday we had a great turnout for our walk and we meet again on Tuesday and Thursday at 8pm at the clubhouse.
Sponsorship cards are available from any of the officials and you can sponsor any of the participants.

Hearty congratulations to the Schoolgirls’ Team from St Mary’s National School who for the first time ever won the Schoolgirls final recently.  They faced very tough opposition from Dromard in a game that was drawn at full time, but our small team in extra time pulled something amazing out of the bag to sin in the end by two points!!  It was a fantastic team performance by every one of the girls.  The team was Molly Fox, Lisa Dowd, Ciara Healy, Niamh Skelly, Sarah Farrell, Seoige Mulvihill, Aine Bannon, Maeve Dervin and Lauren Casey.  A massive thank you and congratulations is also due to Richard Farrell who coached, mentored and encouraged the team all the way to victory!!
