Newtowncashel Drama Group hold a meeting this Wednesday night the 9th of January,in The Hill,at 8.00 p.m..With only a few weeks now,until curtain up,can all departments please attend.

A meeting of the Hall Committee will be held in the Hill on Tuesday the 15th of January at 8.00 p.m. It is important that all members attend.

We welcome brother and sister, Séamus and Breege Kenny,who have taken over the management of the local village shop and wish them success in their venture. We also thank Karl and Laura Dermody who have retired from the trade to devote their time to family life and their teaching carreers, for their great commitment and energy in ensuring that the shop is a thriving part of our local community.

The MS Christmas Day Run took place again for the 22nd year. This year had the largest number of participants with 162 people taking part, resulting in approximately €7000 being raised for the Longford branch of the MS Society. The winners this year were: 1st: John Mulvihill (Kenagh), 2nd: Shane Doyle (Kenagh), 3rd: Dean Masterson (Lanesboro), 1st Lady: Mary Finn (Ballymahon), 1st Under 16 boy: James Skelly (Cashel), 1st Under 16 Girl: Tanya Farrell (Lanesboro), the award for most sponsorship went to Joe Ginty and the outstanding achievement award went to Sean Dooner, who at 82 continues to take part in the run every year. The organisers would like to thank everyone who took part and collected sponsorship and in particular would like to thank all who helped out on the day, to Peter Hanley Motors for sponsoring the T-shirts that were given to each participant and to Adie's, Joe Farrells, Clarkes and Sorohans for sponsorship the hot whiskeys supplied at the end of the run.

Congratulations to the following couples who got engaged recently;Tomas O Shea and Claire Balfe, Eamonn Skelly and Vanessa Kiernan, Marie Collins and Hugh O Kane, Philip Ginty and Mary Bomba.

Congratulations to the following couples who got married recently;Michelle Bawle and Dermot Deeley,Lorraine Melia and Padraig Wallace.We join in wishing both couples a long and happy life together.

Congratulations to both Nicola Egan and Marty Morgan on the birth of their baby boy Niall.

The recitation of the Rosary resumes this Friday the 11th of January at 7.30 p.m. All are welcome.

The Spring Station Masses will be celebrated from the 1st to the 28th of February.Householders who are to host the Stations may arrange dates when convenient, if the have not already done so.

The following are important dates in 2013;
First Confession....Thursday the 7th of March.
First Communion....Sunday the 19th of May.

We extend our sympathies to the family and friends of  Catherine (Katie) Costello nee Murtagh, Carraroe, Lanesboro, and formerly of Newpark,who died on 23rd of December last.May her Soul Rest in Peace.
