Irish TV wished to feature a village in Co. Longford that had something pleasant and interesting for visitors and Newtowncashel was chosen.  They spent last Wednesday filming all the features including the Water Feature, the Butterfly Garden, the Church grounds, the Sculptures, and the Quarry park.
It will be shown in two weeks time on SKY Channel 191

Meet every Tuesday and Friday evening at 8:00 pm at "The Hill".
Routes and distances to cater for all cyclists. Helmets compulsory.

Walking / jogging groups - Every Tuesday and Thursday nights at 9 pm from 'The Local'. Everybody welcome.

St. Mary's National School ,Newtowncashel  Parent's Association hold  a Table Quiz and Raffle, in the Peer  Inn, Lisnacusha, this Saturday night the 13th of June at 9.00 p.m. Lots of great prizes on offer and a great night's entertainment is assured. Table of four is €40.00. So do come along and support.

CAKE SALE & RAFFLE- The mini marathon ladies hosted a cake sale and raffle last weekend to aid their fundraising for the playground development fund. The cake sale was a huge success bringing in €1135. The mini marathon ladies would like to extend a huge thank you to all who baked, donated vegetables, eggs etc. and to all who came and purchased! The School Board of Management will meet in the School,this Wedmnesday the 10th of June,at 8.00 p.m.

Cashel GAA players  are holding a fundraising Race Night , in The Local , Newtowncashel  ,on Friday night next the 12th June commencing at 9.30 . Your support would be very much appreciated. A great night's entertainment is assured.

Our monthly meeting held on Tuesday the 2nd of June last was our last meeting before we break for the Summer months.
It was a very well attended and productive meeting. There is a number of events coming up in the Summer months in which the I.C.A. will take part in. We would like to thank Sile and Gary Mulvihill ,The Local,Newtowncashel for a lovely evening and tasty food. We wish them every success in their new adventure. Our next meeting will take place on Tuesday the 1st of September at 8.00 p.m. in The Hill ,Newtowncashel. New members welcome as always. Enjoy your break ladies.!

Training continues this  week for field and track events with the county finals now on this Sunday the  14th of June in Ballymahon G.A.A. grounds.
U16 draught team are through to the Leinster Semi-Finals which will take place in Newbridge on the 4th of July.
Training will soon start again for this event.
Presentation of medals for Cashel field and track event winners will take place after County finals are over.

Five Rivers Ireland,is a service that recruits and supports foster families. They are holding an information evening in the Longford Arms Hotel on the 1st of July.  This information evening is aimed at anyone interested in fostering, as there is a need for more carers in the Longford area.
The information evening will be held in the Longford Arms Hotel on the evening of the 1st July 2015 from 7-9pm.

The EDI Centre ,Athlone Rd, are holding a 50 week full time programme in Catering/Lifestyle Fetac Level 4 with modules in the following;
Short Order Cooking,Information Technology,Communicsations,Work Experience,Restauraunt Service,Customer Service,Personal Development.

KILASHEE G.A.A. Fundraiser
A date for your diary. Kilashee St Brigids G.A.A. Club is holdind a fundraising night at Longford Greyhound Stadium, on Friday the 12th of June. Admission tickets,€10.00, which are available from all committee members, or please contact Owen Johnston at 087 7615501 or Kevin Connell at 087 7679967. Children are admitted  free and the tickets include admission, racecard and entry into a raffle for a one night in B&B with Dinner in the City West. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

The Harvest Festival Committee stage a Tractor Run, this Sunday the 14th of June,leaving Kenagh at 12.00 noon, and arriving in Newtowncashel at 1.00 pm ,approximately. Refreshments will be served in The local. Entry fee is €20.00 per tractor. Proceeds to St.Christopher's. It is hoped that many will come out to view the parade of vintage, classic and modern machines.
The Harvest Festival will be held in Newtowncashel on Sunday the 23rd of August, commencing at 12.00 noon. This will be the festival's third consecutive visit to Newtowncashel, thanks to the availability and suitability of the site and the success of the event on the two previous occasions. The death occurred on the 28th of May last of Seán Cahill former principal of St Mary's National School, Newtowncashel, from 1974 to 1976. Sean was a much loved and admired man by  all those who knew him, particularly his past pupils from Newtowncashel. Many have fond memories of him and his kind  and fair ways .Formerly of Ballyleague, Lanesboro, Co.Longford, and beloved husband of the late Olive. To his , children Mairead, Eileen, Bríd, John, Aiden and Maura, grandchildren Fergal, Kevin, Oilbhe, Órlaith, Emer, Cormac, Caroline, Anna, Áine, Caitriona and Aisling, his sister Ann, sons in law, daughters in law, brothers in law, sisters in law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends,we extend our deepest sympathies. May his Soul Rest in Peace.

The Junior Choir hold a rehersal this Saturday evening the 6th of June from 5p.m. to 6p.m. in the Church.All members are asked to attend.

An Irish Language Summer Course (SIAMSA!) will take place from Monday 6th July to Friday 10th July in Gaelscoil Longfoirt.  The course will take place from 9.30am to 3.00pm each day and will cater for students from Second Class to First Year.  Further information and applications forms available from Yvonne Ní Mhurchú 087-2642665.

The Annual Pioneer Outing takes place on Wednesday the 15th of July,destination Dublin.Details are as follows.Depart from The Hill.Further pickups en route. 9.30 a.m. Restroom break at the Applegreen M4 Service Station 10.30 a.m. Tea/Coffee and scones at Glasnevin Cemetery including the O'Connell crypt and tower,the graves of Michael Collins and Constance Markievicz.This is a particularly interesting visit as we approach the centenary of 1916. 12.00  noon.Guided tour of the National Botanical Gardens. 1.00 p.m. Opportunity for lunch at the gardens restaurant. 2.00 p.m. Board coach for the National Museum of Ireland,Kildare St. This is a self-guided visit with amazing exhibits on view. 4.30 p.m.Free time at the Liffey Valley shopping centre. Option of dinner in Dublin before departure,or on the homeward journey. The cost is €40.00,payable when booking.The charge includes,coach hire,driver/guide,morning coffee, and admission to to designated places of interest.It does not include lunch and dinner which are at the discretion of individuals. The Irish Hospice Foundation is now seeking to appoint experienced, energetic people to raise funds in the local area through a variety of fundraising activities canvassing for donors who are willing to support its work through regular monthly payments. These positions are self-employed long term. Excellent communication skills are essential for this role which will involve a variety of fundraising activities. Full training will be provided. The Irish Cancer Society’s Care to Drive service is currently seeking volunteer drivers to drive local patients to and from their chemotherapy treatments. We are looking for volunteers to pick patients up at their homes, drive them to the door of the hospital, pick them up when they are finished their treatment and bring them home again. Pattern Day will be celebrated at Lady Well, Derrydarragh,on Saturday the 5th of September. Mass follows recitation of The Rosary at 6.00 p.m.
